Scarlett Johansson was born in New York City on November 22, 1984. Her father, Karsten Johansson, is a Danish-born architect, and her paternal grandfather, Ejner Johansson, was a screenwriter and director. Her mother, Melanie Sloan, a producer, comes from an Ashkenazi Jewish family from the Bronx. Johansson has an older sister, Vanessa, who is an actress; an older brother, Adrian; a twin brother, Hunter (who appeared with her in the film Manny & Lo); and an older half-brother, Christian, from her father’s first marriage.

She transitioned to adult roles with her performances in Girl with a Pearl Earring and Sofia Coppola’s Lost in Translation, for which she won a BAFTA Award, and both films earned her Golden Globe Award nominations in 2003. A role in A Love Song for Bobby Long earned her a third Golden Globe for Best Actress nomination.

Zoe Saldana was born Zoe Yadira Saldaña Nazario or Zoe Yadira Saldana Nazario in Passaic, New Jersey, Her father, Aridio Saldaña, is Dominican, and her mother, Asalia Nazario, is Puerto Rican.

Her first languages are English and Spanish. She spent the majority of her early childhood growing up in Queens, New York. At 10, she moved with her family to the Dominican Republic, where they lived for the next seven years. Saldana took ballet at one of the most prestigious dancing schools in the Dominican Republic. After returning to Queens at age 17, she began performing with the Faces theater troupe, which put on plays geared towards providing positive messages for teens, via themes dealing with issues such as substance abuse and sex. While performing with the Faces troupe and also the New York Youth Theater Zoe was recruited for a talent agency. Her dance training years before, coupled with her acting experience, greatly helped her land her first big screen role as Eva, the talented and headstrong ballet dancer in the 2000 film Center Stage.

Her mother, Elvira, is a physics teacher and drug store manager, and her father, Mark Kunis, is a mechanical engineer and cab company executive. She has an older brother, Michael. Her family moved to Los Angeles, California, in 1991, when she was seven years old. Kunis is Jewish and has cited antisemitism in the former Soviet Union as one of several reasons for her family’s move to the U.S.

She has played roles in film, such as Rachel Jansen in Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Mona Sax in Max Payne, Solara in The Book of Eli and Lily in Black Swan and Jamie in Friends with Benefits.

Her family is Jewish and Trachtenberg celebrates both Christmas and Hanukkah; her grandparents live in Israel. Trachtenberg was raised, along with older sister Irene, in Sheepshead Bay in Brooklyn, where she attended P.S. 99 Elementary School and The Bay Academy for the Arts and Sciences. She later attended Notre Dame High School with Katharine McPhee, Rachel Bilson, and Kirsten Dunst.

Sarah Hyland was born in New York City, New York, the daughter of actors Melissa Canaday and Edward James Hyland and sister of actor Ian Hyland. She has been acting since she was 5 years old, with her first role as Howard Stern’s daughter in Private Parts. She went on in her career to portray such roles as Molly in the 1999 remake of Annie, and has played Brooke Shields’ daughter, Maddie Healy, in Lipstick Jungle on NBC. Hyland is featured in an Olive Garden commercial along with actress Molly Culver, and has also appeared on Broadway playing the young Jackie O in Grey Gardens the musical.

Hyland currently portrays Haley Dunphy on the ABC sitcom Modern Family, for which she has won a Screen Actors Guild Award for Best Ensemble in a Comedy Series, along with the rest of the show’s cast.

She started dating Matt Prokop (of High School Musical 3: Senior Year fame) in June 2009.

Hyland attended the Professional Performing Arts School in Manhattan for education alongside Taylor Momsen, Gregory Malek-Jones and Paul Iacono.

Emma Stone was born in Scottsdale Arizona, the daughter of Krista (née Yeager), a homemaker, and Jeff Stone, a contractor. She has a brother who is younger by two years. Stone’s paternal grandfather was of Swedish descent, and his family’s surname was anglicized to “Stone” when immigrating to the U.S. through Ellis Island; her ancestors also lived in Pennsylvania Dutch Country.

She was a member of the Valley Youth Theatre while growing up, a regional theater in Phoenix, Arizona, where she appeared in her first stage production, The Wind in the Willows, at the age of 11. Stone attended Sequoya Elementary School and then Cocopah Middle School for sixth grade. She was home schooled for two years, at which time she appeared in 16 productions at Valley Youth Theatre, including: A Winnie-the-Pooh Christmas Tail, The Princess and the Pea, Cinderella, The Wiz, Titanic, Honk!, The Little Mermaid, Schoolhouse Rock Live!, Alice in Wonderland, and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, and performed with the theater’s improv comedy troupe.

Stone attended Xavier College Preparatory, an all-girl Catholic high school, as a freshman for one semester. She gave a PowerPoint presentation to her parents, set to the Madonna song “Hollywood,” to convince them to let her move to California for an acting career. She dropped out of high school, and in January 2004, moved with her mother to a Los Angeles apartment, at the age of 15. She was then home schooled, so that she could audition during the day.

Although known as a redhead, Stone is naturally a blonde.

Dianna Agron was born in Savannah, Georgia, the daughter of Mary (née Barnes) and Ronald S. Agron, a general manager of Hyatt hotels. She was raised in San Francisco and also lived in Texas for several years. Agron’s father’s family is originally from Russia, and their original surname, Agronsky, was altered by Ellis Island officials. Her father is Jewish and her mother converted to Judaism; Agron attended Hebrew school and had a bat mitzvah. Agron attended Burlingame High School in California. She has been dancing since the age of three, and began teaching dance as a teenager.

Agron is a vegetarian and a supporter of PETA, and has a role in Bold Native, a 2010 film that explores the issues of animal liberation and animal rights.
